DESIGNER - Amanda Wakeley Autumn Preview

Just before the Easter weekend I was invited along to the Amanda Wakeley press showroom to take a closer look at their spring/summer collection and also get a sneak peek at what's in store for autumn. As a brand, I had always associated them with red-carpet glamour and eveningwear. While that's certainly a big part of the offer, they also have a stunning range of coats, leather pieces and separates for day, work and weekend. This area is one that the brand is keen to grow over the coming years injecting the fun back into the brand.

Designer beaded dresses

The beading on these dresses was exquisite. Conventional beads were given a twist with 3D jewels that shimmered and sparkled. Many of the high-end gowns had graphic crystal embellishment adding to the wow-factor. The shapes reminded me of Art Deco designs and the Great Gatsby, but that wasn't where the inspiration came from.

The winter collection

According to the release, for Winter 2013 'Amanda Wakeley explores elements of romance and softness reminiscent of Doctor Zhivago and Imperial Russia; with the heritage, opulence and mystery it conjures up'. The effect though is subtle enough to fit within the brand's ethos of 'Clean Glam' which underpins the collection and ensures it appeals to the chic modern woman.

I felt like the separates were all hero pieces in their own right, and pieces that a woman would save up to buy. The leather skirts were stunning, with biker-style detailing and zips but in a classic and flattering cut - slim on the hips and flared slightly from the thigh. Luxurious coats and furs also caught my eye. Personally, I'm more than happy wearing faux fur... yet I can at the same time appreciate why a woman might want to wear the real thing - the softness was unbelievable. Models teamed flowing maxi skirts with jersey tops of knitwear which demonstrates how these hero pieces can be brought into the everyday to ensure maximum wear.

Amanda Wakeley cream coat

One of the models wearing a stunning ivory coat and trousers. I wish it was practical to wear this colour when hopping on and off the tube but alas it isn't. Looks amazing though, right?

Autumn/Winter favourites

Cream, orange and black - it's modern yet retro all at once. I'm all about the belted jacket too as my waist is my friend when it comes to fashion. The fur cuffs above right were what I was referring to when saying how incredibly soft the fur items were.

Both of these silhouettes are stunning. Draped, delicate chiffon teamed with leather accessories or a cool mini with a coat that plays with textures.

Above left is the leather skirt I mentioned earlier. Amazing! I love it teamed with this semi-sheer blouse too for a luxe contrast - which is exactly what's going on above right too. The knitwear/maxi skirt combo looks really elegant in this neutral colour palette.

I'm a big fan of these deep teal blue tones and the pencil skirt is my forever-must-have piece. You can find skirts from the current collection over here.

And of course there are the gowns... daring, dramatic and floor-sweeping. Check out more long dresses.
