As a blogger, I know all about the power of the web. I'm sitting here right now using Google's Chrome browser, so when an email appeared to announce that bloggers-favourite The Cambridge Satchel Company would be appearing in a new Chrome advert I was intrigued.
The advert is great, and the company follow the likes of Lady Gaga in being featured in Chrome's ad campaigns which is a massive compliment to their story. You might see the advert online or in cinemas from this weekend, or watch it below now...
The founder of The Cambridge Satchel Company, Julie, started the brand at her kitchen table in 2008 with just £600. With the love of an old satchel she had as a child in mind, she set out to create one for her own children as they started school.
Julie Deane says: "The Internet was crucial to me when I started my business – it helped me find my first factory, leather suppliers and discover the gap in the market for satchels. Bloggers have also played a huge part in the success of the company, so the internet has been fundamental to us as a business."
The business has come such a long way and seen great success. The leather satchels are now sold in more than 100 countries and turnover will be almost £10m this year. Celebrity fans include Zooey Deschanel, Alexa Chung, Daniel Radcliffe and Russell Kane, the cast and crew of Mad Men.
This announcement follows the news that The Cambridge Satchel Company won a court case against Zatchels for infringement of intellectual property rights. The company who set up Zatchels, a former manufacturer of The Cambridge Satchel Company, were ordered to pay an undisclosed sum. Naughty, naughty!
Check out the backpack satchels too...
