John Rocha is always a popular show at London Fashion Week and I've never heard a bad word uttered while I've been there, or after. This season was no exception, but the feeling in the crowd was almost one of surprise. I heard the likes of 'is it a whole new team' because the collection felt that different to previous collections we'd seen. Black and cream still featured, as did those wonderful textures that are intrinsic to Rocha's aesthetic, but wow... there was some colour! And not just a slight dabble with it, I mean hot pink and rose pink, worn together. Bright yellow and bright scarlet too. We're told that this colour is inspired by the 'yearlong colours of Provence' and the gentle colours mixed with brighter shades combined for a very feminine collection.
There were also plenty of cream gowns which looked bridalwear and even if they weren't designed for that purpose they'd be perfect for it. All those except the sheer ones, but then even super-revealing wedding dresses seem to be hitting the headlines lately, so maybe anything goes these days. Lady Gaga also seems to be favouring the revealing wedding dress look!
I tried to capture some of the detail with my pictures below, or scroll to the bottom to watch the video of the catwalk show. The finish of the garments seem to be less deconstructed than this autumn/winter. But the headwear was less precise than the garments which kept an element of the natural and organic styling that Rocha is also known for. I loved the layers of silk organza fabric and three dimensional embellishments which remind us of the level of luxury and craftsmanship that goes into each garment.
Poppy Dinsey of WIWT called this dress 'Barbie Bride' and she's pretty spot on with that. In bubblegum pink it's the immediate association I made too.
