Last season I went along to the GILES catwalk show for Autumn/Winter but my view wasn't that great. The pics I saw after the event showed some seriously dramatic pieces though. With a better view this time round (thanks to vitaminwater) I was able to admire the beautiful collection up close.
The collection was full of drama and moments of it even felt like a Paris couture show and the location matched the collection. Once again Giles Deacon chose The Royal Courts of Justice to complement his striking work. The invitation hinted at what was to come too - a silver, tasseled masquerade mask - and as soon as the first pieces came down the runway the relevance of the invite was clear.
I've picked out a few of my fave pieces below...
Silver leather adorned with glittering Swarovski crystals gave way to ostrich feather trimmed nude coloured dresses. Lace, sparkle and sheer fabrics also featured heavily. It was like the ultimate show of glamour. As for the colour palette, it was the delcate fleshed coloured garments and vibrant reds that I remembered most. From soft and beautiful to daring and dramatic, while the silver and sparkle gave it that modern, almost futuristic edge.
There were also some lovely printed pieces but they didn't hold my attention quite so much. Once again, like in Mark Fast and many other shows I went to, tassels were a strong detail. I am just so glad that nowhere have they been contextualized in a 'cowgirl' sort of way. That's not a look I'd want to copy.
I was also better placed at this show to get a view of the celebrity crowd that the show had attracted. Kelly Brook and Jessie J were sat very close to me while Dannii Minogue, Pixie Geldof, Jade Parfitt and Nick Grimshaw were all also in attendance. If you want a bit of a laugh, I somehow sneaked into a picture of Jessie J and Kelly Brook in the Metro - see if you can spot me.
Models wore tights from New Look! GILES obviously has a diffusion range there and they support the show financially too.
A big thanks to Glaceau vitaminwater for inviting me along to this show. Every fashionista knows that when it comes to Fashion Week, vitaminwater is an essential part of what keeps us all going. Jessie J incidentally has just been announced as the global ambassador of vitaminwater as they look forward to supporting the 2012 Olympics. I'm looking forward to see what they've got planned. I've already heard about fans being able to help create a brand new flavour!
