Claudia Schiffer and Roland Mouret pose with the Fashion Fringe winners
I took along with me my friend Davida (a fashion week virgin) who sometimes helps me out with the blog and we were both really excited to see the entries brought to life in the show. Past winners have gone onto achieve great things including Corrie Nielsen, Jena.Theo and Aminaka Wilmont, all of who are continuing to show their collections at London Fashion Week. Even the non-winners have been propelled into the world of fashion, 17 of them in fact.
We had a chance for a sneak peek of the collections as each designer had created a lookbook which was uploaded onto the new Samsung Galaxy SII mobile phone and delivered to the judges, including Roland Mouret and Claudia Schiffer! I had already decided on my favourite from looking at the lookbooks but it was time for champers while we awaited the catwalk show. We were also lucky enough to meet Colin McDowell, the creative director of Fashion Fringe (often named the Grandfather of Fashion) who had the best seat in the house next to Claudia Schiffer.
The 3 finalists were Fyodor Golan, Heidi Leung and Nabil El Nayal. But taking the crown and impressing the judges most was Fyodor Golan. Take a look at some of my pics below...
Fyodor Golan's collection was dramatic and striking but the hair and make-up actually ended up detracting from the clothes for me. Plus the white satin was a little too 'Muriel's Wedding' for my liking. However, the execution of the collection was a winner for the judging panel. I was lucky enough to nab a prime spot to snaps some pics of Claudia Schiffer at the prize-giving presentation... one word - flawless!
Heidi Leung's collection had a great colour palette featuring neutrals and pops of bright green and orange. The jackets with cut-out detailing were interesting and fun while the light pleated fabrics were great too but the tabard style pieces didn't do it for me.
Nabil El Nayal's collection was easily my favourite, the elegant silhouettes were to die for and I loved the voluminous, chiffon looks too. They looked fab on the catwalk, plus the hair and make-up was glamtastic!
