On Friday I took part in a world record attempt in my hometown of Hastings for the biggest number of pirates in one place. The good news is, we smashed the previous record of 1868 with a total of 6166 people all dressed up as pirates, counted and gathered on the beach. I was feeling unwell earlier in the week so I didn't know if I'd be up for the full day of pirate fun. But as luck would have it, I perked up and managed to take part like thousands of others to help break the record.
There were 400 people that left the record attempt area before the allotted time was up and thousands more that weren't allowed into the area as it was so full! My little sis reckons there were at least 8000 pirates overall because the queue to be counted tailed back and blocked the main road. Good effort everybody! I do love dressing up when everyone else is dressed up too, the atmosphere in the town was fab and we spent the day and night hanging out in the old town with a bunch of rum and grog-swilling pirates.
Here are some pics from the day:
The fishing boats had all raised their pirate flags too.
The kids were pretty excited about seeing Captain Jack Sparrow.
The official certificate that shows we did it!
