So... finally I'm writing up my first show of London Fashion Week. It was Aminaka Wilmont's catwalk show held at Victoria House that started off my Fashion Week. This label comes to us from a design duo named Maki and Marcus (has a nice ring to it) with Scandinavian roots.
The patterns were quite strong with subtle draping which made the fabric fall just right. I preferred the lighter coloured pieces than the blue which seemed a little more retro and not as fashion forward. Generally the shape of the garments was sleek and clinging - no voluminous pieces here. A memorable accessory was the tote/rucksack which you'll see below. Not sure that the shape's practical but it was definitely different.
The dresses stood out as the most important pieces for me, some finishing above the knee and some almost tube style. There was also leather and knitwear. The knitwear was much looser and more unstructured than the dresses.
The shoes were a little crazy, sort of like draped, black rubber 'hooves'. An interesting take on the shoe boot. Striking feathers adorned the heads of some of the models only strengthening the 'bird's nest' look of the hair.
One of the things I loved most about this show was the hair! Windswept, messy plaits in well-lacquered, gravity-defying styles. It was a contrast against some of the sleeker outfits but really worked and the models were gorgeous.
Unfortunately, from my lowly standing position at the back of the room I didn't get the best photos, but here they are anyway...
