Another little blogger interview for you. This is becoming a regular feature, and I have Twitter to thank for that. This week Laura from BitchBuzz spills the beans on her sense of style.
'Tell us about yourself:
I am a style writer for BitchBuzz.com, and I love beauty products, Nick Cave, folk music, Rodarte, Pat McGrath make-up looks and cooking!
Describe your personal style
I like ultra feminine clothes with a rock-chick twist, so a band t-shirt with a mini and ultra high heels, or a cute dress with messy hair, smoky eyes and a baggy cardigan. I like to add a personal twist to looks, but I can be a bit of a sucker for trends!
What are your wardrobe staples?
Black lantern skirt, plain fitted t-shirts, opaque tights, metal studded Mary-Janes and a loose cardigan. Always feels casual enough for the day, but dressy enough when you end up in the pub!
What inspires you?
I love Victorian style and extravagant tulle dresses. The Quasimi A/W 09 show was beautiful, and the whimsical surrealism of Tim Walker makes me want to sit in a field of flowers wearing John Galliano couture! In a more real world way, other people inspire me. It’s great to see how someone interprets style and wears clothes completely differently from how I would have though of doing so.
Who is your fashion muse?
I know it’s a cliché, but I love how Mary-Kate Olsen has mastered glamorous grunge to a fine art.
What is your favourite purchase of all time?
About six or seven years ago I bought a black corduroy blazer from H&M and I still wear it now. It doesn’t sound very exciting, but the fit is just right, it never really goes out of style, and it goes with everything!
What has been your biggest splurge?
Shopping when in holiday-mode is not a good idea. When I was in New York earlier this year I spent nearly $200 on a sheer, balloon-sleeved, paisley print mini dress from a boutique in Greenwich Village. I do love it though! Most of my clothes are quite cheap though as I’m a bit of a high-street queen!
What's your daily beauty routine?
I cleanse tone and mosturise with a Vaishaly face wash, Neal’s Yard Rose Water and Liz Earle Moisturiser respectively. Make-up wise, I tend to go neutral with a lot of eyeliner! I use MAC Select SPF 15 foundation, Benefit Thrrob Blusher, 3 shades of brown MAC eyeshadow, Lancome black kohl on the upper lash-line, MAC eyeliner in ‘forest green’ on the lower lash line, and DiorShow mascara in black. I take it all off at the end of the day with Lush’s ultrabland. Phew!
What jewellery do you never take off?
A big silver claw like ring that my parents gave me for my 21st birthday, and an Art Nouveau silver ring that I nicked from my mum!'
Thanks to Laura for answering these style questions. I am also guilty of 'borrowing' a few items from my mum's closet or jewellery cabinet! Be sure to visit BitchBuzz for all manner of daily diversions, including posts covering style, technology, celebrity and interiors.
