MOST WANTED - Top Selling Designer Dress at Debenhams
Sources tell me that a £60 animal print designer dress has become Debenhams’ fastest ever selling garment – even before it goes on sale. The entire 1000 strong stock of the leopard print one shouldered number has already been pre-ordered on the fashion store’s shopping website - and other people are on a rapidly growing waiting list, anticipating new supplies.
Karen Peacock, Debenhams' director of design explains "We’re seeing the emergence of recession chic. Even the wealthy are watching their pennies – but still want to look good. We strongly suspect that many will be using our £60 dress to impress their haute couture fashion conscious friends."
So is this THE dress of 2009? Demand for the Debenhams Star by Julien MacDonald outfit, soared after it was unveiled to the fashion glitterati and press community who have been clambering over themselves to secure it for their fashion pages.
Debenhams reassures us that although current stocks have sold out, and a substantial proportion of new stock has already been pre-allocated, it was confident that another 1000 dresses will reach stores in time for the official May 18 launch.
