TV - Mary Queen of Shops
If you haven't managed to catch Mary Queen of Shops, on BBC 2 yet, then I suggest you get on to the BBC iPlayer rather sharpish!
Think 'Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares' but in fashion boutiques, rather than restaurants. Mary Portas travels the world advising on retail strategy and branding. She is often given credit for making Harvey Nichols the powerhouse we know today and is more than qualified to comment on the disasters she often uncovers. More often than not, the downfall of these stores is the attitude of the Proprietor, and so Mary has her work cut out in changing the management approach altogether.
There is also a great website and newsletter. See Mary's shopping calendar for the best time of year to shop and perhaps get hold of her latest book.
Mary Queen of Shops is broadcast on BBC 2, Mondays at 9PM
